About the project
Introducing the "Smart Zone Buffer"
The Smart Zone Buffer project in Helmond, part of the Dutch Metropolitan Innovations (DMI) ecosystem, is pioneering a digital access system to enhance urban space management by addressing issues like congestion and road safety. Through collaboration with local partners, this initiative uses a city-wide booking platform that allows for the flexible use of curbside spaces—from loading bays to pedestrian areas—creating a more adaptable and sustainable approach to city logistics. Supported by DMI’s shared data infrastructure, the Smart Zone Buffer is designed to streamline logistics and optimize access, with the potential to scale across municipalities in the Netherlands. This project is a significant step toward a data-driven, future-ready urban mobility and resource management strategy that can be expanded nationwide.
